Significance of Submersible Pumps

As the name signifies, Submersible Pumps are made to be submersed within a fluid of large volume. These Pumps find wide application in sectors like agriculture, production of oil and natural gas, petroleum refining, petrochemicals, power generation, domestic and household utilities, etc,.

Usually submersible pumps are classified in two stages viz. Single Stage Pump and Multiple stage Pump. Actually, these are used to lift or pump-up moderate to high volume of fluid. These pumps are self priming which do the air sucking before pumping of liquid and work while being fully submerged or by placing on a dry area.

Electrical Submersible Pump is constructed by using five main elements which are Multistage Centrifugal Pump, 3-Phase Induction Motor, Seal Chamber Section, Power Cable and Surface Controls and and it is designed in such a way that it doesn't comes in contact with the fluid it is pumping hence, no risk of short circuit. The operation of Submersible Pump is completely based on the principle of force and pressure. When the impeller rotates at the high speed, it exerts the kinetic energy which is then sent to the diffuser where this kinetic energy gets converted into pressure. This pressure pushes the fluid to enter into the pipe and then drained out through the outlet of the pump.

What are the Types of Submersible Pumps?

There are numerous applications for which an electrical submersible pump can be used like in water wells, mines and ships. Many other types of Submersible Pumps are also there for different applications. These are listed below:
  • Bladder Pump
  • Grinder Submersible Pump
  • Well Submersible Pump
  • Fountain Pump
  • Submersible Utility Pump
  • Solid Handling Submersible Pump
  • Dry Pit Submersible Pump
Bladder Submersible Pump : The operation of this type of pump depends on the compressed air which usually acts as the force on the water to push out through the outlet of the submersible pump. This pump is generally utilized by the Municipalities, Oil refineries & allied Industries and the Environmental Protection Agencies.

Fountain Pump : This type of Submersible Pump used to produce fountains and available from small size to large size. Fountain Pumps continuously recycle the water and shoot the water up to the desired height, depending upon the size of capacity of pump.

Grinder Submersible Pump : These type of Pumps are used for processing the waste water by grinding and reducing the sewage particles. Grinder Submersible Pump is generally used in waste water plant.

Solid Handling Submersible Pump : These are used for handling the solid waste material. Solid Handling Submersible Pump are available in large variety for different application in different industry segments.

Applications of Submersible Pumps

Waste-Water Systems

Submersible pumps are utilized within the waste-water treatment plant in circumstances where gravity stream is inconceivable. Rough soil conditions, a high water table, or long pipe going through sloping zones are all examples of situations that block gravity. For such cases, submersible pumps are equipped with evacuation bowls which gathers the waste water and pumps up to the higher height.

In Fire and Rescue Services

Submersible pumps are utilized to pump out water to a base profundity of 15 cms or from open water source to supply the water where incident has taken place.

Mining

Electrical submersible pumps for the mining business are not the same as those utilized for new water or petroleum concerns. Downhole conditions in respect to mines are extreme because that mine water is acidic and conveys suspended solids. Therefore, to drain out that acidic fluid, special submersible pumps are used.

Navy

Submersible pumps are utilized by the Navy and Coast Guard to drain out the water from the flooded region into the sea or ocean.

There are numerous applications of Submersible Pumps from the simplest to complex use.

Things to Remember Before Selecting Submersible Pumps

There are many things which should be considered before choosing the pump as selecting the right pump is fundamental in enhancing the accomplishment of the system. These points are:
  1. Pay attention to the type of pump and its application
  2. Maximum discharge flow
  3. Maximum discharge pressure of pump
  4. Outlet connections of submersible pump
  5. Horsepower of the pump
  6. Explosion proof
