With the development in science and technology different kinds of products have been introduced in the market at present. Some of the products have emerged as important household items and users nowadays are more meticulous than ever when it comes to choosing these products. One such product is the Aluminium Foils. The main reason behind the popularity of these foils is that they can be used for a large number of purposes ranging from food packaging to decoration. These foils are generally available in rolls and users can get them at a very affordable price.

 History

Aluminium Foils started rolling out of the mills in the early 20th century when its production started on an industrial scale. Prior to the advent of these foils thin sheets of tin were generally used for various purposes. But soon after introduction aluminum foil displaced tin foil as the most favorite food packing material. The first documented use of aluminum foil dates back to 1911 when it was used to pack chocolates for the first time. Gradually it emerged as one of the most reliable packing materials and food product manufacturers all over the world started using it on an industrial scale.

Manufacturing

These foils are generally made from billet aluminum when it is in its molten form. Beta radiation is used to maintain a uniform thickness throughout the foil. Foils of different thickness are manufactured through the manufacturing process. During the process mostly Kerosene based lubricants are used in order to prevent patterns from coming up onto the foil. The Aluminum Foils are then heated up at a temperature of 340°C steadily for twelve hours so that the liquid lubricants evaporate, thus leaving a dry surface. The foils are then rolled and packed before being delivered to the stores.

Uses

Aluminium Foils are used for a large number of purposes, however, the most prevalent use can be found as a packaging material. Nowadays, foods are packed in these foils before being sold to customers. As a matter of fact, foods packed in these foils can retain their flavor and taste for a long time. Other uses of this product can be found in thermal insulation, electromagnetic shielding, art and decoration and cooking.

These foils can nowadays be easily bought from any retail store at a very small price. The foils generally come in a roll and the part to be used has to be torn out of the roll.
